Food Review - Kki Sweets (School of the Arts)

Thursday, September 11, 2014

I think the security guard at School of the Arts (SOTA) secretly lol-ed at me when I asked him: "Where is 'Ki' at?"

"OH, 'kay-kee' is right over there".

Yes. The Kki in Kki Sweets is pronounced as 'Cake-kee'. After almost a 9 month hiatus, they are back in what I think is the best location to open a Japanese-inspired pastries shop - SOTA. The school where art talents are groomed. The school where music and pretty art pieces are created.

The school where their staircases are meant for sitting.

And now, the school where you get to eat one of the best cakes in Singapore.

Japanese Kirin Milk Tea ($4.80)

Japanese Kirin Milk Tea

The taste of this Japanese kirin milk tea reminded me of the milk tea that I LOVED so much when I was in Hokkaido:

Hokkaido Milk Tea

Unlike most milk teas where the milk overpowers the tea, the milk taste for this particular brand is subtle enough that it brings out the true flavour of the tea. It is light and totally refreshing, which makes it a perfect drink for whetting the appetite and cleansing your palette for the awesome cakes!

I wish that they would be more generous with the tea portion though, as you can easily gulp this delicious milk tea all in one go with this cup.

Cafe Dumo - Milk Chocolate Coffee Mousse ($9.80)

Cafe Dumo - Milk Chocolate Coffee Mousse

This pretty little cake is so perfectly dome-shaped, you can find the circumference by multiplying π (pi) with the diameter of this Cafe Dumo. The cake is soft, but stays in shape no matter how you poke it with your knife. The coffee mousse is light on your tongue and is fragrant enough without being too overbearing on the coffee taste.

Antoinette ($8.80)

Antoinette

We were so lucky to have the last slice of one of their best sellers - the Antoinette. Aptly named after the owner, this white chocolate mousse with mango puree centre has a dream-like texture. It is almost like you are tasting clouds - light, soft and fluffy! Even though the cakes come at a rather high price tag, this is easily one of the BEST cakes I have ever eaten.

I will be back Kki Sweets. You are too delicious.

Evilbean's last words/recommendation:
- Friendly owner that serves with a smile, meticulously arranged decor and dream-like cakes. What's not to love about this cafe?
- MUST-ORDER: The owner. I mean the cake that is named after the owner - Antoinette.
